Coordinator, Political and Legislative Affairs at the National Grocers Association

Position Summary

The National Grocers Association is the national trade association representing the retail and wholesale grocers that comprise the independent sector of the food distribution industry. In addition to retail and wholesale members, NGA represents affiliated associations, manufacturers, and service suppliers, and other entrepreneurial companies that support NGA’s Mission and Philosophy.

NGA is searching for an energetic, outgoing individual to join the NGA Government Relations team as the Coordinator of Political and Legislative Affairs. The Coordinator will work closely with NGA’s team of lobbyists, and will be primarily responsible for administering and raising funds for NGA’s Political Action Committee. The position is ideal for job seekers interested in starting or growing their career in political fundraising and lobbying.


Responsibilities

*Directing the NGA Grocer PAC activities, including filing LDA and FEC and reports, soliciting NGA members for prior authorization and PAC contributions, creating strategic fundraising/donating plan, planning PAC events at annual NGA trade show, and administering PAC software

*Directing NGA’s grassroots advocacy program by identifying opportunities for strategic engagement, sending “Action Alerts” to NGA members, and working with State association allies

*Support NGA’s team of lobbyists by attending hearings and coalition meetings, drafting memos, preparing reports, writing weekly newsletters, researching legislative and regulatory initiatives, scheduling meetings for lobbyists with Congressional staff, and planning NGA member Hill engagement events (e.g. fly-ins).

*With proven track record performing primary job functions, individual will have opportunity to take on lobbying portfolio


Qualifications

*0-3 years of experience on the Hill, Executive Branch, government affairs, or political fundraising

*Foundational understanding of federal legislative, regulatory and political/fundraising process

*Strong written and oral communications skills

*Ability to multitask on simultaneous projects

*Team player with proven ability to collaborate with others on projects

*Knowledge and experience in political fundraising and PAC activities preferred

*Experience with following software programs helpful but not required: Voter Voice, DDC, Impexium, Constant Contact, Informz, and Microsoft Office Suite (including Sharepoint, Teams, 360).

*Bachelor’s degree required
