Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program (MCHIP) - Communications Intern

The Communications Intern will assist the MCHIP Communications Team in executing communications plans and strategies to promote our Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program (MCHIP). This includes seeking opportunities to highlight MCHIP programs, initiatives, products and results through featured articles, collateral, conferences, events, and via web and social media mediums.

MCHIP, the largest maternal, newborn and child health procurement in USAID history, is a five-year $600 million Leader with Associates (LWA) Cooperative Agreement aiming to accelerate the reduction of maternal, newborn and child mortality in 30 priority countries through the introduction, development and scale-up of high-impact maternal, newborn and child health interventions—including malaria prevention and treatment. Jhpiego is the prime, and partners include Save the Children (SC), John Snow, Inc. (JSI), Johns Hopkins University/Institute for International Programs (JHU/IIP), Macro International, Inc., Program for Appropriate Technology in Health (PATH), Broad Branch Associates, and Population Services International (PSI).

Responsibilities:

--Support Communications Team in the execution of MCHIP’s strategic communications plan

--Engage MCHIP and principles in social media outlets

Help to write and deliver press releases, fact sheets, articles and collateral materials

--Develop accurate and creative story ideas for a variety of media and selected audiences, including sharing amongst like-minded groups and partner organizations

--Aid in planning of high level events for USAID and MCHIP

Required Qualifications:

--Demonstrate ability to plan and execute successful events and manage projects

--Ability to multi-task is a must

--Strong written oral and presentation skills

--Preference will go to students enrolled in graduate programs such as Communications, Public Health, Global Studies, and Public Affairs or other applicable programs

--Familiarity with and interest in international health environment

--Ability to meet deadlines under extreme pressure, build consensus and work with diverse groups of people
