Other Duties As Assigned

Happy Friday from the DCPA+CJ team. We hope you enjoy the diverse set to follow, and we'd like you to find the job of your dreams today – or at least the job that keeps the rent paid.

Coptic Orphans would like to bring home a Communications Associate for a wide variety responsibilities including web management, fundraising support, message development, and production of newsletters, brochures and the like. Three to five years professional experience and strong online technological literacy are among their requirements.

Put your experience (2+ years worth, please) in political finance, bookkeeping, and FEC/state disclosure to work for Aristotle as PAC Outsourcing Manager, providing oversight/management to their clients’ PAC operations.

Recently-posted opportunities in the DC office of energy, materials and consumer goods conglomerate Koch Industries:

  • PAC Manager – three-plus years PAC management experience sought
  • Admin Assistant – newly created position supporting two or three lobbyists
Consumers Union – defenders of a fair and fact-based marketplace and publishers of the much-admired Consumer Reports – have put out a fresh call for a Policy Analyst with legislative/regulatory experience on energy and/or environmental policy issues.

In our workplace experience, other duties as assigned usually translates into some grim + thankless task nobody else will touch. However, we’d like to think that as Director of Public Relations for Florida Keys Community College in Key West, your other duties will involve putting an old Buffet LP on the turntable and whipping up blender drinks. Once you’re settled, let us know when we can come crash on the sofa for a week.

Here’s another far-flung-Friday posting of the vacation-area variety: Government Affairs Director with the Pocono Mountain Association of REALTORS (Stroudsburg, PA). Apply by July 15.

And we can’t resist bringing you one more out-of-town opportunity – and here’s why: as former in-house flack for hoteliers/club-magnates Ian Schrager and the late Steve Rubell in 1984, the Nancy of Nancy J. Friedman Public Relations (in NYC) will assuredly have some great stories to tell at happy hour for you if you’re tapped as a VP-level PR pro hire there. We’re jealous already.

Just to be clear – the Senior Policy Advisor job with anti-corruption and natural resource/trade watchdogs Global Witness is based in DC. However, they expect your CV in their London HQ post-box, email server or fax machine by 9:00 a.m. local time on July 24 – sayeth the Brits: late applications cannot be considered.

We’ve always heard nice things about working at the Discovery Channel. Find out for yourself by using direct links or searching here using ID number. Note: we didn’t go too deep into their system today, but it looks like there are a lot of other jobs in various departments there, so search around.

The Rights Working Group is seeking a Communications Manager of the dynamic and high-energy type who committed to social justice work, and presumably not afraid to take on the Dept. of Homeland Security.

For those who would rather be on the other side of the above-mentioned RWG/DHS divide, we bring you this Public Affairs Specialist opportunity with the Dept. of Homeland Security's Customs Border Protection agency. $60k-$113k - job ID IHC 268962 JEB PN - apply by July 22.

URS Corp.
is looking for a Communications Specialist with special experience: at least seven years experience in communications on hazard, flood mitigation, NFIP or other related topics. Professional registrations/certifications in this arena will make your CV stand out from the crowd. Gaithersburg, Md., location. Alternate search: go to URS Division Jobs category, use req # URS37715.

Policy, political, and/or campaign organizing experience? Passion for solving the climate crisis? Ability to work well with an extremely diverse non-profit and private sector coalition? Available for fall 2009 intern work? A full set of affirmatives means you should probably at least look at this Policy Associate opportunity with Avoided Deforestation Partners. Stipend possible for exceptional candidates.

We would love to work in the relaxed North Old Town location of the American Physical Therapy Association, and not just because it’s near a genuinely good (really) Teppanyaki restaurant. Opportunities include:

Not just any old ad agency – but rather The Ad Agency – is looking for a Media/Web Strategist. Candidates should have solid experience researching, planning, buying and implementing media plans.

International law firm K&L Gates is seeking a Government Affairs Assistant to support their DC policy practice group. Capitol Hill background and legislative research skills are desired; transportation issues experience a plus.

Military Families United could use a Communications Coordinator to take on media list management, pitching stories to local and national outlets, drafting press releases, op-eds and other written materials, and helping with web management. A minimum of 1-3 years of related experience is required; Capitol Hill and/or agency experience is preferred.

You’ve got until July 15 to get your resume into the Alliance for Excellent Education for their Senior Policy Associate slot. Relevant experience in the area of school improvement/replacement and accountability would be particularly helpful to your cause.

Energetics may still be looking for "Communications Specialist (search DC location) opportunities if the entry-, mid-, and senior-level variety, along with technical and analyst positions." Analyst, strategic consultant, tech/science writer and web content jobs available in the Columbia, MD location.

America's Most Wanted
has put out an all-points bulletin (ok, a craigslist ad) in hopes of apprehending a Marketing Associate/Associate Publicist to keep this well-known brand in the spotlight. The AMW operation is DC-based, if you didn't already know that. Reward offered: $52k+

Friday's job-searcher's helper: the career center of the Council of Public Relations Firms.
